Project description

The first step towards the future has been taken: In March 2021, the jury decided on the winning design for the competition to develop the area. The winning design, "Duisburger Dünen" (CKSA Christoph Kohl Stadtplaner Architekten, Berlin, and Fugmann Janotta und Partner, Berlin), creates a centrally located, green, dense and mixed neighborhood, which, with networked neighborhoods, offers the best conditions for a healthy, climate-neutral lifestyle. The competition was accompanied by an online citizen participation, in which citizens could directly contribute. The winning design also emerged as the clear favorite from the online voting of the citizen participation.

The design convinces with its charismatic idea to lead a generous park to the city center and to create an urban accompaniment as a backbone of structured and differentiated urban building blocks. The three overriding categories of use "residential, office/service and creative" shape the characters of the neighborhood spaces. The interactions between the uses find a place in all scales, bring diversity into the quarter and create special intensity at the "overlaps".
